how has passion planner helped you?

“To say the Passion Planner saved my life might be a little over the top, but it kinda did. I’m currently a part-time student and the co-owner of an artisanal banana pudding company called #Baonanas that has been featured on ThrillistGothamistand Business Insider ever since our participation in Smorgasburg, a large outdoor food market that is a New York City attraction in Brooklyn. Smorgasburg has been called “The Woodstock of Food” by the New York Times and is considered by locals here “the big show” for food vendors.

However, I was once an unmotivated college student feeling lost about what I wanted to do for a living. I did nursing for two years at Rutgers University to learn that I hated it and had been taking classes at a community college with no goal in mind. I was taking one or two classes a semester, and failing or getting Cs. Then one day, my girlfriend, Trisha, (who has always believed in me and pushed me to be the best version of myself) told me about the passion planner. Being broke at the time (still am. haha), I applied for the Get One, Give One Program and was ecstatic when I received mine. Slowly, momentum began to grow and direction in my life became a little bit clearer.

I wanted to be an Occupation Therapist and the Passion Planner helped me set goals, schedule them accordingly, and accomplish them every week. I actually like to call my planner my accountability buddy! Then came the biggest curve ball in my life in March of 2014. Somebody hit my car while it was parked in front of my house. Such a trivial event changed the course of my life, but I’ll get to that later. Broke and with a huge dent on my car, a friend suggested to me that Trisha and I should sell our homemade banana pudding that was a rave at family and friends gatherings. We did banana pudding a little differently, freezing then whipping it to make it light and airy then layering it with vanilla wafers and bananas allowing it to soak overnight for the perfect fluffy texture. We started this fundraiser on Instagram with the #Baonanas, and it grew bigger than we ever imagined. Friends, friends of friends, and eventually strangers contacted us to get some of our banana pudding and the word spread!

We fixed the car after two months and next thing we knew, Trisha and I were now business owners. Juggling being a full-time student and a business owner, after getting straight As taking 6 classes at Kean University last semester, I decided to commit full-time to the business and part-time to school. The Passion Planner has helped clarity, direction, and motivation be constant fixtures in my life. I’m not perfect, and rarely have what I call “perfect games”, but if I’m able to follow through on 70-90% of what I schedule on my Passion Planner than I’m effectively, as they say in football, moving the chains. If this hit and run happened before the Passion Planner I really don’t think I’d be able to juggle school and a business. I don’t think I’d be featured on these websites or doing live demonstrations on Littlethings.com which reached 30,000+ views on Facebook. I don’t think I’d be on Business Insider as one of the Top 16 Things to Eat at Smorgasburg. I don’t think I’d have wholesale partners that seems to be growing by the week. I don’t think I’d have an online store that will soon be shipping our product nationwide.

The Passion Planner has given structure to my life, has allowed me to invest in the things that really matter, and has been my accountability buddy since the day I got it. Can’t send enough love to the person that hit my car, and the person that sent me my Passion Planner!
